# Preface

Hey all, it's been a while! My last post was on Feb. 21 of this year, and it was just a small update surrounding the status of my GPG key. I've been... busy, to say the least these past 9 months. However, with Thanksgiving break here and Winter break just on the horizon, I'm going to be able to take a step back from everything I've been neck-deep in and catch up on some personal projects, like this website! I have a few articles that have been drafts for about 8 months now (which you could see if you just go to [the github that this website is built from.](https://github.com/ryan77627/rschanzorg-public)) Expect to see those stories coming in the next few months, if not sooner! Anyway, back to your (not so) regularly scheduled content!

# Introduction

So, I've heard about [Mastodon](https://joinmastodon.org) in passing for the better part of a few years now. However, for whatever reason I never decided to join it. Whether it be for the lack of users at the time, effort that I didn't want to put in (because if I'm going to use it I will do it the exact same way I manage my Matrix presense: I'll do it myself (more on that soon)! ) However, with the recent.... news about Twitter and just watching everything happen to it, I've had a renewed interest in Mastodon.

My interest was sparked again by a mixture of hearing about it from friends in [RITLUG](https://ritlug.com), a club that I regularly attend and am secretary of at RIT, and from various internet sources. Hearing about a huge popularity spike made me excited: This is a great excuse to give it a shot! Plus, if I go on it, I can try to be a bit more "present" online -- posting tinier things more frequently, just to prove I'm still around .
